Full Coverage on Therapy at Home for Recovery

Recovery and recovery from a major surgery or a serious health condition that required hospitalization in an intensive care unit (ICU) may be a complicated task that begins in the hospital and ends at home. Home care, if properly provided, favors the patient by allowing him to be away from the hospital environment-constant changes in nursing staff, noise of communication devices, lights that increase anxiety and disturb sleep -, accelerating recovery, reducing the cost of health expenditure and offering him greater satisfaction.

Nursing care may include:

Changing and treating wounds by health professionals who care about cleanliness and conditions that allow for rapid healing without risk of infection

Control and placement/change of intravenous serums, catheters or feeding tubes, including for fluid and food intake, drug injection, etc. with safety and extra care for their cleanliness
Monitoring of the patient’s vital signs such as body temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation and breathing rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen, clinical control e.g. in case of pain to notify a doctor if necessary, etc.

Coverage from hospital programs

Almost all health contracts state in their general terms that in the context of a hospitalization-always covered case – will be included in the coverage the pre-and post-hospitalization costs that, according to the provisions of each insurance policy, concern the set of diagnostic and laboratory tests as well as the fees of specialized doctors who deemed necessary admission and hospitalization and what is required for full recovery such as physiotherapy, additional diagnostics or laboratory tests aimed at controlling the course of recovery, etc.P..

In particular, however, for the post-operative/post-hospital care services mentioned in the previous passage and include in addition (indicatively) the enema, the change and care of the bed, the placement of a catheter and the bladder washes as well as par enteral feeding, the insured / candidates for insurance should be properly informed:

some hospital programs refer to them with special terms, specifying the amount of compensation and the period covered by the benefit after hospitalization, conditions, whether it is a basic or additional benefit, etc.

others leave the landscape cloudy, citing insurance for medically imposed recovery and rehabilitation costs in contracted centers that, however, descriptively do not seem to be related to specialized nursing services at home
they provide a home care allowance up to the maximum time limit and the maximum amount per incident specified in the contract
after a waiting period such as one or two years
they provide them through the (basic or optional) coverage for exclusive nursing staff.

For example, the relevant benefits may be activated only in specific cases (e.g. ICU hospitalization, hospitalization due to traumatic brain injury( cranioencephalic injury), 3rd degree burns, etc.), to be given up to 60 days from discharge, the amount of cover / compensation to be determined from the outset by the company per incident or to be derived from a percentage of the hospitalization costs(e.g. 5% or 10% whether there is a Social Security Institution or not respectively) etc..

The compensation is usually made after the insured provide the insurance company with any documents that will be requested such as original receipts, medical certificates etc.P..
